Kirk Richards
Bio
Kirk Richards lives in Texas and pursues his exploration of classical realism, a phrase used by his mentor, Richard Lack. That term, coined by Lack, describes a synthesis of Impressionism and Academism: a combination of the “big look”-minimizing unnecessary detail, reporting the subtleties of tone and color-intertwined with the exquisite draftsmanship of the 19th century French Academy painter. Kirk Richards studied with prominent American painter and teacher Richard Lack in Minneapolis from 1976 -1980 after earning his BFA and MA degrees in art from West Texas State University. He began teaching and completing commissions in 1982 in Amarillo Texas. Mr. Richard’s paintings and instruction has been featured in many national and international publications including American Artist, Southwest Art and International Fine Art Collector. He also co-authored the book For Glory and “For Beauty: Practical Perspectives on Christianity and the Visual Arts.”
