The Beauty of Still Life in Oil

Show schedule

Still life painting in oil is a wonderful way to explore the beauty of working from life while learning how to apply paint that adds a supple brilliancy to a painting. Leah will demonstrate how to begin a painting with a beautifully designed setup. She will explain how taking the time to observe the movement of light over the whole setup and recognizing the similarities and relationships will help to simplify your approach. Then she’ll illustrate how the use of deliberate paint strokes, light, shadow, color and edge variations an artist can not only create harmony and dimension but also tell a beautiful story.

The Beauty of Portrait Drawing from Life

This class has no available sessions. Please email us if you are interested.

There is an inherent beauty and spontaneity that comes when drawing from life. Drawing a portrait model from life enables an artist to see and capture a line, a quality, a character that is “alive”. To express this “life”, students start by simplifying what they see when they look at the model. They can then open themselves up to observe movements of light, the flow of lines, and to recognize similarities and relationships. Leah’s demonstrations will shed light on creating beautiful line and gesture, capturing form and dimension, studying planes and symmetry, the basic anatomical structures, and how all these elements are interrelated.
